    In computer science field operating system or operating system is a group of computer programs managing computer hardware and computer software resources |software]] for a computer. It processes raw systems and user inputs and responds by assigning and managing internal system tasks and resources as a service to users and system programs. Basically, a operating system will perform the following basic tasks:

Most operating systems provide usage programs that offer an interface to resources managed by the operating system. This usage program has a command line interpreter as a basic user interface but since the mid-1980s, it has been replaced with a graphic user interface (GUI) to facilitate handling.

The operating system on itself does not have any user interface because its users are usage and non-human programs. The operating system is a platform for other system software as well as for usage software. Among the most popular operating systems are Microsoft Windows, Linux, and Mac OS. Microsoft Windows dominate the largest market share in desktop and laptop markets, while web servers typically use Linux or other UNIX-type systems. [2] UNIX is also widely used in academic institutions. Because it's free and free, Linux has now started gaining ground in some of the companies that used to use Windows.
